Client Bill of Rights

  • A right to be represented zealously and competently.
  • A right to know about your lawyer’s education, training and experience.
  • A right to an estimate of the costs and fees the lawyer anticipates incurring in your case.
  • A right to have all the legal consequences of each decision made in your case fully explained to you.
  • A right to a written retainer agreement setting forth the lawyer’s hourly fee and the client’s financial obligations.
  • A right to strict confidentiality.
  • A right to be kept informed of all action taken by the lawyer on your behalf, including copies of all correspondence sent in your case and pleadings filed on your behalf.
  • A right to have your phone calls returned by your lawyer or her representative within 24 hours. If your lawyer is unable to speak with you herself, you have a right to be told when to expect her to return your call and the reason for any delay over 24 hours.
  • A right to be treated with courtesy and respect.
  • A right to file a complaint with the Board of Professional Responsibility for Tennessee if you feel your lawyer’s actions in your case have been inappropriate:
